AMD : Critical security flaw affects nearly all processors

Chipmaker AMD has identified a major security flaw in several of its processors. It allows hackers to do a lot of things without your knowledge, but fortunately, a patch is already available.
Unfortunately for us users, it is possible for a hacker to attack our computer even if we follow the basic rules of cybersecurity. This includes not downloading from untrusted sources, not opening attachments from emails that seem suspicious, having up-to-date antivirus software or Windows Defender... But sometimes, the vulnerability exploited by hackers is completely invisible to us because it affects a component like the processor.
This is not common, but when it happens, it can be quite serious. We remember the flaw in AMD models that allowed hackers to steal your passwords, which the manufacturer took months to fix. Another one had forced them to lower the performance of the affected processors. And it is the American company again that has just discovered a problem affecting all generations of Zen CPUs. In fact, there are 4 of them, which are classified as "high" in terms of danger.

DANGEROUS SECURITY FLAW AFFECTS MULTIPLE AMD PROCESSORS
In fact, the exploitation of the flaw has to do with the SPI memory, for Serial Peripheral Interconnect. It is a small component on the motherboard that stores several important elements, including the system BIOS. The results of exploitation range from denial-of-service attacks to the execution of malicious code, including the loss of integrity and availability of the machine. The full list of affected processors is available on AMD's website, but overall, this includes the 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000 and 7000 series, as well as their variants.
Fortunately this time, the manufacturer has already deployed the necessary patches for the majority of vulnerable models. Installing them requires updating the BIOS, which is a simple operation, but can potentially cause problems if done incorrectly. Do not hesitate to ask for help if you find that your version is older than the one indicated in the table on AMD's website.
